The Shocking Truth
A common response to women who have been to prison is, “They made the mistakes, they just need to live with them.” Maybe that is not surprising to you, but what if these women were offered grace and a second chance? How would it affect their children?
The children of women who have been incarcerated have little hope of escaping the same fate, marginalization and struggle. These mothers often sleep under bridges or drift between the couches of friends and family, but a child deserves a safe, stable environment in which to live and grow. Mercy’s Shore addresses the hopelessness of poverty and marginalization of children and their previously incarcerated moms.
What’s The Plan?
Step One
The first step in our plan is to acquire or build a complex of single-family apartments with one or two bedrooms which will be fully furnished and tastefully decorated and for which no rent will be charged as the relationship between the families and Mercy’s Shore is not that of landlord-tenant but that of program-participant. Without your financial support, the hope for a different future will never be anything more than just a dream.
The Mercy’s Shore Difference
Physical needs
Mercy’s Shore provides a comfortable, safe place for previously incarcerated mothers to raise their children and reintegrate into society. We also teach the mothers necessary skills for effective parenting, benefits of child’s play, health and nutrition as well as personal finances.
Emotional Needs
Mercy’s Shore aims to address the emotional needs of our residents by offering addiction recovery help, weekly counseling with a licensed professional counselor, conflict resolution, anger management and a mentoring program for school-aged children and their moms.
Spiritual Needs
Through Bible studies and partnerships with local churches, we aim to provide for spiritual needs and growth. It is our hope the residents will come to understand the grace and love of Jesus Christ and develop a saving faith in Him.
